Concealed Zipper Foot

A concealed zipper foot is a sewing machine presser foot designed for inserting concealed or invisible zippers into garments. These zippers are often used in dresses, skirts, and other clothing items to create a seamless and hidden closure. The concealed zipper foot is specifically engineered to allow you to stitch close to the zipper teeth while keeping the stitching hidden within the fabric, making it appear as though there is no zipper at all when the garment is closed.

The concealed zipper foot has two channels or grooves on the underside that accommodate the teeth of the zipper, with one groove on each side of the foot. These grooves help to guide the fabric and zipper tape through the machine while ensuring that the needle stitches very close to the edge of the zipper teeth, securing it to the fabric.

To use a concealed zipper foot, you typically follow these steps:

Attach the concealed zipper foot to your sewing machine, replacing the regular presser foot.

Open the zipper and place one side of the zipper tape face down along the edge of one fabric piece, aligning the teeth with the groove on one side of the foot.

Start stitching from the top of the zipper, making sure the needle goes through the fabric and as close to the zipper teeth as possible.

As you sew, you may need to stop occasionally to adjust the fabric and ensure it stays aligned with the foot's grooves.

When you reach the end of the zipper, secure your stitching and close the zipper.

Place the other side of the zipper tape face down on the opposite fabric piece, aligning the teeth with the groove on the other side of the foot.

Stitch this side of the zipper as well, keeping the stitching close to the teeth.

When you finish sewing both sides of the zipper, your concealed zipper should be securely in place, hidden within the fabric.

Using a concealed zipper foot can give your garments a clean and professional look, making it a valuable tool for sewing projects that require concealed zippers. Make sure to practice on scrap fabric before working on your actual project to get the hang of using this foot effectively.
